MF 50 Guide

Massey Ferguson 50 Thermostat Cross Reference

The MF 50 uses two different thermostats depending on the engine. Getting the wrong one will cause overheating or chronic undercooling, so identify your engine before ordering.

Continental Z134 gas engine — 160°F thermostat: OEM 836000M91. This is a 2.115" outside diameter unit that opens at 160°F. It also replaces 830842M91, 836000V91, 836000M1, 830685M91, 184406V2, and 181566M1. This same thermostat fits the MF 35, MF 135 gas, MF 150, MF 202, and MF 204.

Perkins A3.152 diesel engine — 180°F thermostat: OEM 1446222M91. This is a larger 2.705" outside diameter unit that opens at 180°F. It also replaces 1446073M91, 890991M91, 883471M91, 1853245M1, and Perkins 2485639. Same thermostat as the MF 65 diesel, MF 165, MF 255, and MF 300.

Replacement tips: Drain coolant below the thermostat housing before pulling the two bolts. Scrape the old gasket clean from both surfaces. Always install a new gasket — reusing the old one guarantees a leak. Drop the thermostat in with the spring side down (toward the block). Refill with 50/50 coolant and run the engine with the radiator cap loose until the thermostat opens and air purges.

Verify engine type before ordering. Gas and diesel thermostats are NOT interchangeable — different diameter and opening temp.
