Massey Ferguson 135 Continental Z145 Tune-Up Specs

The MF 135 with the Continental Z145 is the North American gas variant. The Z145 is a 145 cubic inch (2.4 litre) four-cylinder overhead valve engine.

Ignition timing: 8 degrees BTDC, static. Rotate crankshaft to TDC on compression stroke for number 1. Points should just be opening.

Point gap: 0.017-0.022 in (0.43-0.56 mm). Dwell 66-72 degrees.

Spark plugs: Champion RD-16 or AC 85S. Gap at 0.025 in (0.63 mm).

Valve clearances (cold): Intake 0.013 in (0.33 mm). Exhaust 0.015 in (0.38 mm). Intake and exhaust are different on this engine.

Firing order: 1-3-4-2, number 1 at the front.

Governor: Mechanical, driven off camshaft inside the timing cover. Common issue: compensator spring comes loose from governor arm causing hunting/surging. Pull timing cover, reattach spring.

Torque specs (ft-lbs): Head bolts: 70-75. Main bearings: 85-95. Connecting rods: 35-40. Rocker arm shaft supports: 20-25.
